Today’s competition was stroke/count putts held at Marina Hills contested by 52  players with fairways and greens in good conditions. Our Christmas function this year was by the pool at Orchard Inn Resort and we had 50 players and 14guests attending. Unfortunately the weather was a bit hot for the venue but the food was great and many drinks were a plenty.

Some shots taken at the Orchid Inn resort.

During 2011 up until last week we had 182 individuals who played golf with us at an average of 30 players per week. This compares with 2010’s 169 individual players for

an average of 23 per round.

Thanks to the Orchid Group for their support and the use of their facilities here at the Orchid Inn Resort for registration on Tuesdays.

Thanks to John from Strawberry Fields and Cold Drop, Dave from midnight Rock and Vidar from Just My Luck bars for their support throughout 2011.

Thanks to all those players and especially these guys who played 20 or more

games in the year, Mike Anker 30, Eric Brown 30, Fred Cannova 22, Mike Carr 35,

Ron Carter 24, Neville Chandler –Cross 35, Tim Daly 29, Bill Goodell

31, Rob Guthrie 30, Wayne Hall 20, Hans Hauser 21, Sam Kielley 39,

Rubin Martinez 30, Bruce McAdams 20, Lawrence Meek 21, Nobby O’Connor 33,

Svend Pedersen 20, Stephen Peters 36, Greg Robinson 26, Howard Thomas 33,

Eric Wolfe 27.

These guys keep the club alive through their support.

We had 66 players who played one game in 2011 and never played with us again; obviously they did not enjoy the day, or did not stay in town long enough.  I

apologize if it was something I said that upset them, or maybe they did not appreciate my Australian sense of humor.

Special thanks to Eric Brown and recently Neville Chandler- Cross for their work in registering players at the course so that they do not need to come to the Orchid

Resort in the mornings.

Also thanks to Sam Kielly who did the registering when Eric was away, Sam also comes by the Orchard and picks up the NTP flags so that they will be at the course for the early hitters.

As well as Bill and myself there are guys who come to Orchid Inn Tuesdays, and provide transport if required namely Howard Thomas, Greg Robinson, Mike Carr, Mike Anker and Keith Morrell when in town, thanks to those guys.

This year we lost 9 playing days at Marina Hills, on three occasions we were able to play at Air force City but this year has been the most rain-affected year we have had since my involvement with the BSGC.

Some facts about the club:

In 2011 up to last week

We collected 777,850  peso in Tournament payments of which we unfortunately we had to waste 439,350 peso paying  green fees to Marina Hills golf Club so we would have an excuse to drink and go bar hopping after the game.

We spent 17,780 peso buying tee shirts which we sold for 24,200 peso.

We also collected 6300 peso for club hire. We could have made a lot more renting clubs but Gath Knight would not let me rent out his new R11 Taylor Made driver.

We wasted a further 5, 950 peso on stationary, printer ink and score cards so Bill can work out handicaps for everyone to bitch about and I can keep a record of all this information that no one gives a shit about any way.

One small request for next year, I have to enter all the names in a spreadsheet alphabetically and it take a lot of time, especially when you realize that the last two to arrive most days are Mike Carr and Walter Smith’

When I was back in Australia I used to check the funeral notices and noticed that everyone died in alphabetical order so I ask if next year you could check in in alphabetical order.

We also wasted 5,000 peso giving money to those players who were arsy enough to get their ball within a flag stick on holes 6 & 7. How many of these were good shorts or just pure luck I do not have records for, but I hope that this money was put to good use by those who won it and was not squandered on food or clothing.

We wasted money on 12.600 peso on experienced balls, trophies, monthly medal prizes, give away mugs and a few other odds and ends,

We gave 9,050peso to waitress at the various venues as tips, which is money well spent as the girls all think I am the one who personally gives the tip and I get good service when I go bar hopping.

We very wisely spent 250,200 peso on drinks at our after golf functions.

This year we had a very successful trip to Thailand with a maximum of 24 players on one day, we plan to go again next year with golf starting on Monday 15th October, so we will be looking for names in the New Year for the 2012 tour.

We also had two Match Play events between BSGC and FRGC competing for the Wayne Rush trophy, the first was played at Beverly Place San Fernando on April 13 and was won by BSGC 5 games to 4.

The 2nd leg of this competition was played at Marina Hills on November 22 and again BSGC were victorious winning 5 games to 3.

The results are always close and the games played in good spirit, Tony Long as Captain of FRGC to presented the Wayne Rush Trophy to Bill Goodell Captain of the BSGC.

Tony & Bill with Wayne Rush Trophy

Hopefully the golf course at Binictian Subic will be playable for the first round next year at a date to be arranged.

On a sad note we lost a couple of good friends suddenly this year, Jim Norlund and John Tidy.

Jim paid us a visit in the early part of the year and went back to the USA in February, unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer and passed away about three weeks after the initial discovery.

John had not played with us for some time as his work commitments did not allow him to play in the morning, but he often joined us for a drink or two at the after golf functions. He sadly passed away whilst on a business trip to Japan.

Good scores recorded today were:-

Rod Guthrie 65, Lawrence Meeks 65, Keith Morrell 68, Bruce Milner 68, John Greenhalgh 70, Tony Long 71, Les Greentree 72, Mike Anker 72, Brad Armstrong, 65, Tim Daly 67, Ron Carter 68, Mike Carr 70, Bruce McAdams 70, Gianni Bicego 71, Gerd Buntzow 71, Wayne Hall 71, Howard Thomas 72.
